Wild Releases #58 - #60

I plan on releasing these three books at the YWCA Used Book Sale at Westmoreland Mall in Greensburg this evening when I go shopping for a birthday present for my nephew (Happy Birthday, Smeejay!) and for lots of used books for myself to feed my current obsession with BookCrossing. They should find their intended audience there and help raise some money for the YWCA's programs.

Wild Release #57

My sister told me to put some stickers on this and release it somewhere so she doesn't have to pack it and move it to her new house. I left it propped up against a flagpole on the wall of the Hose Co. No. 2's parking lot on North Pennsylvania Avenue. Perhaps one of the workers in the newly occupied state office building will find it and journal it.

RABCKs #25 - #34

Ten books are on their way to Jare in New Mexico for the 2007 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. I wish I could be there myself flying in the balloons, but my books will be flying high instead.

RABCK #24

"The Lovely Bones," by Alice Sebold is the first book I "caught" on BookCrossing. Technically, I caught it in my mailbox, having received it as a RABCK from Dusties. I wanted to pass it on in a similar fashion, and the opportunity presented itself when genielady was looking for a copy to read. I mailed it today. Enjoy!

Wild Release #56

I felt like buying new books tonight, so I headed to Barnes & Noble with gift cards in hand. While I was there, I thought I'd leave J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Return of the King" in the parking lot for the poor souls who spent all their money on lattes and cappuccinos in Starbucks and couldn't afford to buy a book.

Wild Release #55

"The Two Towers," the second book in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien, is out in the wild. I left it propped up on the USA Today newspaper box on the sidewalk outside of King's Family Restaurant in the Hempfield Pointe Plaza in Greensburg.

Wild Release #54

The easiest literature class I took in college was called "Fantasy" and used The Lord of the Rings trilogy as its textbooks (waaaaay before the movies were made). Having read them as a young teen, I thought rereading them as an old teen would be an enjoyable way to earn three college credits. I was not mistaken. That was nearly 20 years ago. I recently came across these "textbooks," and decided it was time for us to part ways. I released the first book of the trilogy, "The Fellowship of the Ring," at the Greensburg Post Office on South Pennsylvania Avenue today. I left it on the tall table right inside the door. Please note: the cover art on my edition is different than shown, so don't go looking for Elijah Wood! ;)

Wild Release #53

I had a breakfast meeting at Eat 'n Park in Greensburg this morning, so I decided it would be a great opportunity to release a book. I left "No Greater Love," by Danielle Steel, on top of the newspaper boxes outside before I went into the restaurant. By the time I came out, it was gone. I hope whoever picked it up enjoys it!

Wild Release #52

My guide to the sky can be "Your Guide to the Sky." The book's front cover touts itself as an "ideal introduction to amateur astronomy for anyone." It's a little more complex than I care to tackle, so I set this "like new" book free. If you're quick, you should be able to find it with General Nathanael Greene's statue in St. Clair Park on North Maple Avenue in Greensburg.

Wild Release #51

This is another book that was being kept for sentimental reasons. "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason" is now free to begin a brand new adventure in the parking lot of the Barnes & Noble in Greensburg where I left it propped against a light pole. Should I wish for its experiences to be a little less--or a great deal more--exciting than Bridget's were in this book? Perhaps it will write home once in a while and let me know.

Wild Releases #49 & #50

I spent a good deal of time this past weekend conducting an inventory of my bookshelves and making sure that every book I owned was registered and properly labeled (I still have 30+ to go--where do they all come from?!?). One of the books I came across was "Bridget Jones's Diary," by Helen Fielding. I read it when it first came out and was keeping it purely for nostalgic reasons so I decided it was time to let Bridget go. I set her free in the world on a bench in the Helman-Ghrist parking lot on North Main Street in Greensburg.

I also finished reading "On What Grounds," by Cleo Coyle. It is the first book in a series of Coffeehouse Mysteries, and apart from the typographical errors that were very distracting, it was a good book with characters I'm interested in reading more about. I decided that a coffee shop would be the best place to leave the book, so I dropped it on a table outside The American Coffee Shop on North Main Street.

Catch #7!

This one took a little while to check in! I released it on May 21, 2007, at the Greensburg Post Office. Three months later, "An American Childhood," by Annie Dillard was caught at the St. Vincent DePaul thrift store in Greensburg. It traveled two blocks--wonder how it got there? Thanks for rescuing it, kind Anonymous Finder! Enjoy :)

RABCKs #1 - #11

RABCK is an acronym for "Random Acts of BookCrossing Kindness." BookCrossers will often offer to mail their books to other BookCrossers who express an interest in receiving them.

When I first joined BookCrossing, a member named 4libros asked for some help with an Upward Bound/TRIO project this November. She was asked to supply 100 children's books and 100 books appropriate for teen-aged mothers and she needed the assistance of the BC community. I joined many others in volunteering to help. I was sure I would find appropriate books at the YWCA's book sale that is held in September, and I would send some to her then. Somehow I managed to collect enough books on my own without having to wait for the sale, so I mailed them to her today.

Wild Release #48

I left "Looking for Mr. Goodbar," by Judith Rossner, at Citizens Bank on South Main Street on my way back from lunch. It's on top of a planter of lovely flowers near the back door by the parking lot. Happy hunting!

WIld Release #47

Today I left the last of my Lemony Snicket books, "The End," in the Apartment Rental Guide box on the sidewalk of the Helman-Ghrist parking lot on North Main Street. I have left books there before and they have disappeared, but none have been journaled ... yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed :)

Wild Release #46

My sister, niece, and nephew wanted to go out to dinner tonight, so I had another opportunity to leave a book. I left Lemony Snicket's "The Penultimate Peril" on a chair inside Jioio's Restaurant on Carbon Road in Greensburg while we were waiting for a table. By the time we were done, someone was sitting on the chair and the book was nowhere to be seen.

Wild Release #45

"The Grim Grotto," by Lemony Snicket, is another book I recently reclaimed from my niece. I left it at The American Coffee Shop on North Main Street in Greensburg, on a table on the sidewalk. Enjoy!

Wild Release #44

I finally got "Wicked," by Gregory Maguire, back from my niece and I couldn't wait to release it. I left it in the box office window of The Palace Theatre this morning on my way to work. I hope it's found by a theater/book lover soon! Happy hunting!

Catch #6!

What a great way to start off the month! I'll definitely be leaving more books at The American Coffee Shop since "The Regatta Mystery and Other Stories," by Agatha Christie, was caught and journalled by an anonymous finder! My niece told me that her friend saw it on the table where I left it and was really excited to see it there, but left it for someone else to find. Gratefully, they did. Enjoy the book, AF, good luck, and hope to see you join BookCrossing someday!
