This blog follows my adventures in BookCrossing--the practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise. It is a fascinating exercise in fate, karma, or whatever you want to call the chain of events that can occur between two or more lives and one piece of literature.

Wild Release #12
My latest release was "The Bridge Over The River Kwai," which I left at our local Blockbuster store behind the movie version of the book. Curiously, the movie was called "Bridge On The River Kwai." I wonder why it was changed to "on" rather than left "over." I headed to the Drama section of Blockbuster first and was dismayed when I could not find the movie. I thought that maybe our Blockbuster didn't carry it--it is a pretty small one. I thought I'd have to leave it on the shelf where the movie should have been. Then I thought that they MUST carry it, and began looking for a different section it might be in. I was very relieved to find it in the Action section. The drop was quick and easy. I wonder how long it will be before someone finds it.
They call me grubsneerg.
Actually, it's something others call my hometown of Greensburg, Pa. You probably figured out it's Greensburg spelled backwards. I first heard "grubsneerg" from a friend who had a friend who referred to our hometown this way. Was it affection for our small town or derision of our small town on his part? It doesn't matter to me. It was affection on my part that led me to name one of my Neopets grubsneerg, and affection again when I joined BookCrossing under that name.
I decided to use this blog to keep track of my adventures in BookCrossing. Here are my first eleven wild releases:
