Wild Release #63

It was a dark and stormy night tonight. OK, it wasn't stormy, but it was dark. The full moon hasn't quite risen in the sky yet, so it seemed the opportune time to release "Heart of Darkness," by Joseph Conrad. I left it at First National Bank in the West Point Plaza, propped up on the ATM machine outside.

Wild Release #62

A year ago yesterday, I was having the most fabulous meal of my life in a beautiful old stone villa in Tuscany, Italy. Today, I had dinner at the Olive Garden Italian Restaurant. Definitely not the same, but still good in its own way. The Olive Garden in Greensburg is always teeming with people--you generally have to wait for a table every night of the week. I always found this strange considering that there is a large portion of the population here that are Italian, and therefore, probably eat Italian more often than we German/Swiss do. Anyway, there are a few benches outside for the patient patrons to sit on while they wait, so I left "The Idylls of the King," by Alfred Lord Tennyson, for them. I believe I fed someone's mind tonight since the book was gone when we left.

Wild Release #61

My mother, sister, Madame Bovary, and I went to Panera Bread for dinner; Madame Bovary decided she'd like to stay. I left her by the bakery case and cash registers and actually saw a man pick her up and examine her. Alas, he ended up leaving her behind. I hope someone finds and appreciates her soon.

Wild Releases #58 - #60

I plan on releasing these three books at the YWCA Used Book Sale at Westmoreland Mall in Greensburg this evening when I go shopping for a birthday present for my nephew (Happy Birthday, Smeejay!) and for lots of used books for myself to feed my current obsession with BookCrossing. They should find their intended audience there and help raise some money for the YWCA's programs.

Wild Release #57

My sister told me to put some stickers on this and release it somewhere so she doesn't have to pack it and move it to her new house. I left it propped up against a flagpole on the wall of the Hose Co. No. 2's parking lot on North Pennsylvania Avenue. Perhaps one of the workers in the newly occupied state office building will find it and journal it.

Ten books are on their way to Jare in New Mexico for the 2007 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. I wish I could be there myself flying in the balloons, but my books will be flying high instead.

RABCK #24

"The Lovely Bones," by Alice Sebold is the first book I "caught" on BookCrossing. Technically, I caught it in my mailbox, having received it as a RABCK from Dusties. I wanted to pass it on in a similar fashion, and the opportunity presented itself when genielady was looking for a copy to read. I mailed it today. Enjoy!

Wild Release #56

I felt like buying new books tonight, so I headed to Barnes & Noble with gift cards in hand. While I was there, I thought I'd leave J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Return of the King" in the parking lot for the poor souls who spent all their money on lattes and cappuccinos in Starbucks and couldn't afford to buy a book.

Wild Release #55

"The Two Towers," the second book in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien, is out in the wild. I left it propped up on the USA Today newspaper box on the sidewalk outside of King's Family Restaurant in the Hempfield Pointe Plaza in Greensburg.

Wild Release #54

The easiest literature class I took in college was called "Fantasy" and used The Lord of the Rings trilogy as its textbooks (waaaaay before the movies were made). Having read them as a young teen, I thought rereading them as an old teen would be an enjoyable way to earn three college credits. I was not mistaken. That was nearly 20 years ago. I recently came across these "textbooks," and decided it was time for us to part ways. I released the first book of the trilogy, "The Fellowship of the Ring," at the Greensburg Post Office on South Pennsylvania Avenue today. I left it on the tall table right inside the door. Please note: the cover art on my edition is different than shown, so don't go looking for Elijah Wood! ;)

Wild Release #53

I had a breakfast meeting at Eat 'n Park in Greensburg this morning, so I decided it would be a great opportunity to release a book. I left "No Greater Love," by Danielle Steel, on top of the newspaper boxes outside before I went into the restaurant. By the time I came out, it was gone. I hope whoever picked it up enjoys it!
