Wild Releases #427 - #429

Today saw three releases at three different locations for me. The first was John Grisham's "The Innocent Man," which I left on the window ledge of the Westmoreland Bar Association's North Pennsylvania Avenue entrance. The second was "The Swan Princess," by Francine Hughes, which I left on the rock wall of the main playground at the upper lake of Twin Lakes Park. I capped off the day with a release at Cracker Barrel in New Stanton: I left Disney's "The Rescuers Down Under" on a bench outside the front door.

Wild Release #426

I loved Robert Harris's "Enigma," a good old-fashioned spy story that takes place during World War II. You can, too, if you go to DeGennaro's Car Wash on Route 119 in South Greensburg, where I left it propped up against one of the giant silver vacuum units outside of the car wash.

Wild Release #425

I was browsing in my local Blockbuster and just happened to have the novelization of "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," by William Kotzwinkle, in my hand, so I slipped it on the shelf under the movie, which can be found in the Family section. Phone home soon, little book.

Wild Release #424

Mom had a craving for Pumpkin Spice Cappuccino from Sunoco's A Plus Mini Market, so being the good daughter that I am, I fetched some for her from the store on Mount Pleasant Road and Urania Avenue in Greensburg. Being the good BookCrosser that I am, I released a book while I was there. I left "My Favorite Book," by John Sydney Tighe and Christopher Pelicano, on top of a blue container on the sidewalk outside the store.

Wild Release #423

I was rather proud of myself for this themed release. I left "Fathers, Mothers, Sisters, Brothers," by Mary Ann Hoberman, outside the Family Video on South Main Street in Greensburg. It was only after I left it leaning against the tall, glass-block Washington-Monument-type column, that I realized that plaza also has a Family Dollar and a Papa John's. Very family-friendly, indeed.

Wild Release #422

If you visit the Chick-fil-A in Eastgate Plaza soon, you may find " Curious George and the Dumptruck," by Margret & H.A. Rey, on the ledge outside the side door. Enjoy!

Wild Release #421

It has been awhile since I have had Chinese for lunch, so I sought to amend that today. I picked up some Sweet and Sour Chicken at Szechuan Garden and left Amy Tan's "The Joy Luck Club" behind on the window ledge outside the front door.

Wild Releases #419 & #420

Happy Columbus Day to all! I celebrated having the day off work by visiting Twin Lakes in Greensburg and leaving "Bambi: A Read-Aloud Storybook" on the wishing well in the parking lot on the upper lake. Then, on my way home from spending far too long in a car dealership, I left Michael Ondaatje's "The English Patient" on top of a gas pump at the Sheetz in Irwin.

Wild Releases #414 - #418

In the days before political correctness, one could say that today was a perfect Indian summer day. And that would have coincided nicely with our trip to Ligonier, Pa., for Fort Ligonier Days--a three-day festival commemorating the anniversary of the October 12, 1758, battle between British and French forces during the French and Indian War.

Today we can only say that it was a very warm, summer-like day, the likes of which we don't see too often in October in this part of the world. Sister No. 3, Nephew No. 1, Mom, and I enjoyed this last bit of summer by partaking in Boy Scout Nachos, Pulled Pork Potatoes, Pumpkin Gobs, and Holy Hotdogs. We also looked at all the craft booths we could find while I left a few books around town: "The Barking Ghost," by R.L. Stine; "To Kill a Mockingbird," by Harper Lee; "The Hunt Club," by John Lescroart; "Things Not Seen," by Andrew Clements; and "The Horribly Haunted School," by Margaret Mahy.

Wild Release #413

My lunchtime travels took me to The Boulevard in Greensburg today, where I left Daphne du Maurier's classic, "Rebecca," on a bench outside the front door. Hopefully, the second Mrs. deWinter won't be lonely for long.

Wild Release #412

If you're quick, you may be able to catch Dean Koontz's "Lightning," which I just left (about 20 minutes ago) on the bench outside T.G.I. Friday's. Good luck!

Wild Release #411

It was raining on and off most of today; it was "on" when Mom and I went to Bob Evans Restaurant in Greengate Centre for dinner. I had a delicious turkey and spinach omelette--OK, so that's more like breakfast, but it was still delicious. When we left, the rain had ended, so I left Norma Fox Mazer's "After the Rain" on the bench outside on the sidewalk.

Wild Release #410

Someone who visits the Subway/Rax on Route 119 in South Greensburg may find a little extra something with their combo meal if they check the railing in the vestibule between the side doors. That's where I left "A McKaslin Homecoming," by Jillian Hart. Happy hunting!

Catch #55!

"Pride and Prejudice" was quickly found and journalled by new member Luna 56, who says, "I just found this book, sitting like a happy friend atop a fence in downtown Greensburg. It is one of my daughter's favorites, so I will share it with her before reading it myself and passing it along." Thanks for joining and journalling, Luna56, and welcome to BookCrossing!

Wild Release #409

I was passing by The Palace Theatre in Greensburg, with Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" in hand, so I propped it up on top of one of the brick posts of the gate surrounding the courtyard and went on my merry way. I hope the book has many merry adventures ahead.

Wild Release #408

I had two very important parcels to drop off at the post office this afternoon, the first being an actual package and the second being "Mrs. Brisby's Important Package," by Mary Carey. I left it on the tall table by the post office boxes in the lobby. Happy travels!

Wild Release #407

It amused me to leave Dr. Seuss's "Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?" on the ledge outside the front door of Wendy's on Route 119 in South Greensburg. I wonder if anyone who saw it there went inside and ordered chicken...

Catch #54!

"Green Eggs and Ham" has found a new home, and BookCrossing has a new member. GolferGirl reports: "My grandson & I were delighted to find this book while approaching the window at the drive-thru line at Burger King. It was a great surprise as he loves books and I read to him often. This being one of my favorite books, it just seemed like the end to a perfect day spent with my littel guy! Thanks so much." Thank *you*, GolferGirl (and grandson) and welcome to BookCrossing!

Wild Release #406

The flowers in the planters at the Courthouse are still beautifully in bloom. They made a perfect backdrop for my release of "Flowers in the Attic," by V.C. Andrews. I left this hardcover book on the edge of the planter that runs along the front of the Courthouse.

Wild Releases #404 & #405

The price of gas has dropped to $3.49 a gallon, and since the level in my gas tank has dropped as well, I stopped to fill up on my way home from work. I left John Irving's "A Widow for One Year" on top of pump no. 10 at Sheetz. I had to pick up a few things for dinner at the grocery store, so I dropped "The Joke Book," by Roy McKie, in the seat of a kiddie cart inside the Eastgate Giant Eagle.
