This blog follows my adventures in BookCrossing--the practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise. It is a fascinating exercise in fate, karma, or whatever you want to call the chain of events that can occur between two or more lives and one piece of literature.
It's been getting worse and worse, so today I finally decided to do something about it. The interior of my car was filthy! Remnants of winter's salt and spring's seed and leaf coverings were all over the floor, not to mention the ever-present dust and cat hair all over the seats, so I headed to DeGennaro's Car Wash on Route 119 in South Greensburg to use their giant vacuums. Twelve minutes and eight quarters later, my car was thanking me. After I put the vacuum hose back in its place, I left Stephen J. Cannell's "King Con" behind to keep it company.
My mother is very susceptible to advertising, particularly Olive Garden ads on TV. Within days of seeing a commercial for their newest entrĂ©e, she suggests that we go there for dinner. Guess what she saw a few days ago. That's right—an Olive Garden commercial. Guess where we went for dinner tonight. That's right—Olive Garden. Not that I minded too much: 1) I didn't have to cook; 2) their food is usually quite edible; and 3) the benches outside are a perfect place to leave a book. Guess what I put on the bench outside the Olive Garden in Greensburg. That's right—"Full Blast," by Janet Evanovich and Charlotte Hughes.
The second of my 3rd BC Birthday RABCKs was entrusted to the U.S. Postal Service today. "The Year of Fog," by Michelle Richmond, and some BookCrossing goodies are headed to kobie03 in Canada. Enjoy!
Well, hello, old friend! "Mum's the Word: A Flower Shop Mystery" was logged in today by an AnonymousFinder in Islamorada, Florida, one year, seven months, and one day after I last saw it in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Thanks for checking in, and enjoy!
The winner has been drawn for the March/April edition of the International Audiobook Sweepstakes RABCK! The lucky duck will be receiving two audiobooks from me: "Dead Even," by Brad Meltzer; and "Lily White," by Susan Isaacs. Congratulations and enjoy!
It's Sunday night and most, if not all, of the stores in downtown Greensburg are closed. That didn't stop me from leaving a little gift for someone who may be wandering the streets. If they're wandering near Greensburg Art Supply on East Pittsburgh Street, they may find Kathryn Reiss's "Paint by Magic."
It's Tax Day in the United States, so our local Chick-fil-A was celebrating Tax Relief Day. Anything we bought there today we can get for free during the month of May as long as we bring our receipt dated 4/15! In the spirit of giving out free stuff, I left "The Tax Inspector," by Peter Carey, on the ledge outside the front door.
I found a BookCrossing book in the wild—and it looks awfully familiar! I ran into "The Perfectly True Tales of a Perfect Size 12" (which I last saw in December 2009 when I gave it to Mom to share with her book club members) at the Christian Layman Corps store in Greensburg. Mom tells me I shouldn't be surprised since several of her book clubbers volunteer there. I left it on their shelves for someone else to find, and I found an armful of other books to bring home with me.
March 26 was my third BC birthday and to celebrate, I offered three RABCKs of any book from my TBR or AVL lists, or one month of Members Plus/Wings from the supply store. The three lucky winners randomly chosen on March 31 were: 1) hakkalina; 2) wendyv; and 3) kobie03.
It's a glorious Spring day here in Greensburg, Pa., and even though it's April Fool's Day, I'm not pulling your leg! I will, however, let you figure out exactly where I left "Pursuit of Justice," by Mimi Latt. My only hint? It's somewhere inside or outside the Westmoreland County Courthouse. Happy hunting!
